Call Centre Worker Sacked Over Biscuit Theft

Michael Campbell was arrested and subsequently sacked for helping himself to a biscuit in the office that belonged to a co-worker.

The technical support worker for the Newcastle Convergys cal centre took the biscuit from a tin in the office during a night shift, thinking that nobody would mind. However, the £7 M&S biscuit assortment belonged to colleague Pamela Harrison who realised that some of her biscuits had been taken.

CCTV footage was examined and Campbell was later arrested and charged with theft. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £150 court cost and the cost of the biscuits at a court hearing last Thursday.

During sentencing, Magistrate Lesly Pyrah told him:
What you did was a breach of trust and there is no excuse for a breach of trust.

After the hearing, Mr Campbell commented:
It’s totally stupid. £157 for one box of biscuits. I thought they were from the company but they were actually from a person who had brought them in.”

“I work in a pub now where I am trusted with the keys. I am not a dishonest person.
