Best Performing Bank Staff To Suffer Call Centre Closure

which has been serving Alliance and Leicester customers for 25 years is to be closed, putting 128 jobs at risk. The Kent-based centre, which is now owned by banking giant Santander, deals with current account and savings queries.

The decision to close the centre has been condemned by the CWU (Communications Workers Union). “This is bitter blow to our hard working members who are among the best performing staff in the whole Bank. This news is all the more disappointing given the impressive profits achieved by Santander UK,” says Nigel Cotgrove, CWU national official.

There is a potential lifeline for workers, with positions being opened at centres in Bootle and Leicester and a voluntary redundancy package being offered to the remaining staff.
