Vodafone axes 500 UK Call Centre Jobs |
Vodafone has today announced that it plans to make 500 job cuts at its headquarters and
call centres,
as part of a wider move to save £1bn of costs across the business.
Vodafone states: ‘As customers look for best value in their mobile services, Vodafone intends to reduce its cost base whilst continuing to invest in new products and services to meet changing customer needs. The majority of savings will be achieved by taking operating costs out of the business; however, there will also be a reduction of approximately 500 jobs across the business.'
Vodafone also says there some job roles are being created, but these are mainly within retail and online services.
The redundancies come as part of the £1 billion cutbacks announced by the group’s head, Vittorio Colao, last November, to be achieved by 2011.
